Get Fit – with the Wii Fit!
If you are like me, you are always looking for a way to make your fitness routine more interesting and even fun! But, I am not one to run out and buy something without checking out product reviews and more important to me – real consumer reviews! So when I read about the Wii Fit Balance Board before Nintendo released it, I had to do my homework. I am happy with what I found and I hope my review can help you make your decision.
Up front I will say that I would not recommend the Wii Fit as your total fitness routine, but it is a great addition. It is also a great place to start if you haven’t exercised for a while. That is one of the great things about the Wii Fit, people can have fun exercising in the privacy of their own home without the embarrassment of walking on the treadmill at the gym next to Fit Fred!
The Wii Fit offers many different types of exercises from aerobics, strength, yoga, challenging (and fun!) balance games. You don’t even feel like you are exercising while doing most of the games – which makes it perfect for getting kids active. Head butting a soccer ball, walking a tightrope, hula hooping up a storm, or navigating a river in a bubble – this is exercise?
My favorite things about the Wii Fit are:
- Record keeping – The Wii Fit Balance Board tracks your progress. How much time you exercise (you gain points to unlock new games) your weight & BMI, and how often you play. It is pretty humiliating for a game to tell you that you haven’t exercised for a while!
- Yoga – I used to think I did yoga. Yeah right! The Balance Board can track tiny movements in your body and with a graph shows just how unsteady you are. This forces you to tuck your tush, suck in that belly and try harder!
- Boxing & Step Aerobics – Both of these get my heart rate up while having a good time. To make the step aerobics more effective, I did purchase a rise to lift the Balance Board off the ground a little higher.
FINAL OPINION
While the Wii Fit is not going to help you run a marathon, I have noticed that my body is more toned and my posture is better. Yeah – it’s the Yoga! I have purchased the new Wii Fit Plus and I plan to try it out soon, so watch for my review on that.
